Western Health is one of the largest health services in Victoria, comprising 3 acute hospitals and a number of other services, and caring for a population of almost one million in west Melbourne.
As part of their 2021-2023 strategic plan western health aimed to “Establish an organisation-wide, evidence-based methodology for collaborative quality improvement” and “enhance active participation, facilitation and collaboration in research, education and quality improvement initiatives”. Big objectives, and with one extra challenge - Western Health have more that 11,000 staff, and a keen drive to improve, but started their journey with only 1.6 FTEs on the improvement team!
It was clear from the outset that they needed a software platform to help manage improvement work from across the organisation and an efficient mechanism for supporting staff involved in driving improvement in their departments. Western Health implemented Life QI, initially at a small scale, and have seen great success in facilitating their project portfolio across a range of project scales – Local, Divisional, and Organisational.
As improvement work and capability continues to expand, the automations available in Life QI will be crucial in ensuring efficiency and appropriate governance across an ever-growing project portfolio. Life QI is also becoming a crucial mechanism for tracking and reporting against NSQHS standards.
